How to use it

Start with the three basics. The examples below show more ways to save and organize your project as you work.

Type these to your AI, in any chat.

The basics

Follow one project, TRIP TO EUROPE, from the first chat to the next day.

1

Start a project

Create a home when you start using Living Projects for a project. A home is your project’s folder, in your own storage, where Living Projects keeps its notes and record. Use your own project’s name.

“make this a living project — call it TRIP TO EUROPE”
“I'm thinking of buying a car, make it a living project in Google Drive”Google Drive not connected yet? Say “connect Google Drive using Living Projects” first. Your storage is where your files live: Dropbox, Google Drive or OneDrive.
“Create a home” creates a project folder in your storage, with the files and subfolders Living Projects needs. Your working files can stay alongside the Living Projects folder. Inside it, notes hold what you save as you work, the record keeps decisions and the current standing, and the Parking Lot holds ideas for later.

Save a note

Save as you go: a thought, a plan, a choice and why you made it, a date, or a next step.

“save a note: hotel booked for the 12th to the 16th”After a long answer you liked: “that's very nice, save this please”A note can hold a whole answer, not just one line: advice, a plan, a list. Your AI may offer to save. It saves once you say yes.
The first time, it may say: “Living Projects needs a one-time name for this platform's notes folder before it can save the note.” Answer with the name for your AI:Claude Notes in Claude · GPT Notes in ChatGPT · Gemini Notes in GeminiKeep the names exactly as given: Living Projects needs them to work properly.
hotel booked for the 12th to the 16th; next, the train from Paris to Lyon. Save this.
Claude Notes · Saved 2026-09-29 · ClaudeHotel booked for the 12th to the 16th. Next: the train from Paris to Lyon.
A note can be one line or a whole page. It stays in your project’s notes folder, ready to read or organize later.

Continue in a new chat

When you come back, ask your AI to continue the project. It uses the Living Projects plugin to read the saved information in your home, so you don’t have to explain the project again.

“we're working in TRIP TO EUROPE home”At any point during the work, you can ask your AI to review the notes or read the record.
In a builder AI like Claude Code, “continue please” is enough. You open Claude Code in your project's folder, so it can see every file there, including the home file and the record. It reads where the work stands and carries on from there on its own, without being told what to read. To have each new session start already knowing your project: 1. Click Copy to copy this line:
@Living\ Projects/HOME.md
2. Start Claude Code and choose your project's main folder as the folder to work in. 3. Paste the line and ask: make a CLAUDE.md file with this line From then on, each new session starts already knowing your project. Set up Claude Code: Connect →

More ways to use it

“Save this” is a good place to start. Use the options below when you want to be more specific. Open a section to see an example and what happens.

Your AI saves a note with the fact in its title. If you save an updated fact on the same subject, the latest one is treated as current. Start with the word fact, then say the fact itself.
fact — the hotel deposit is $500
Dropbox › TRIP TO EUROPE › Living Projects
Claude Notes
2026-09-29 fact — the hotel deposit is $500
Your AI adds a numbered entry to the record, including your reason. If something changes, a new entry replaces the old one without deleting it. For example, if your hotel arrival changes from the 12th to the 13th, the new entry gives the 13th. The old entry stays in the record, marked as replaced.

Organizing brings your notes together, adds decisions to the record, and updates the Current Standing page. When you continue in a new chat, your AI can read it to see where you left off. There’s no set schedule. Your AI may suggest organizing, or you can ask whenever you want. Useful times include after saving several notes, before taking a break, or when you want a fresh picture. If a chat misses something recent, ask it to read your notes again.
or, if you're not sure: “is this a good time to organize?”or, if you only got a short summary: “show me the full updated current standing before saving it”

The next time your AI opens the home, it asks whether you want to update the home file. If you say yes, it updates the file and keeps the old copy beside it. If you say no, nothing changes. You can say yes or no. Your AI waits for your answer before opening the project, then continues as usual.

which projects do I have in Living Projects?
You have two: TRIP TO EUROPE and NEW CAR.
You stay in the chat you’re in. Your AI reads the other project using Living Projects and brings what’s saved there into this conversation. You don’t have to look it up or explain it. If an idea belongs to the other project, save it there: “save this to NEW CAR.” Your AI reads another project only when you ask, and it finds what was saved there. It works the same in a text chat or a live voice conversation (Voice Mode in Claude and ChatGPT).
we're working in TRIP TO EUROPE home. check my NEW CAR home: when is the test drive? I don't want it to clash with the trip.
The test drive is on the 9th, three days before you leave on the 12th. No clash.

A complex project can have many folders and still use one Living Projects home. If you're writing a book, you might have folders for chapters, research, characters and drafts. Those are your working files. Your Living Projects home keeps track of the book as a whole, with notes from the different AIs you work with, decisions you've made and where you left off. What belongs in the same home, and what needs its own? The chapters, research and drafts all contribute to the book, so they can stay in one home. Later, you might start looking for a publisher. That work grows out of the book, but now you're keeping track of publishers, submissions, replies and next steps. You can give it its own home while the book keeps its original one. The two are still connected. Feedback from a publisher might lead you back to the manuscript. Each home keeps track of its part of the work.

Each AI works at its own pace and differs in how it finds information and explains what it’s doing. With Living Projects, they read and save information in your project’s home. You can open the notes and record in your own storage to see what was saved.

Tells you what it saved, and often lets you know when it's a good time to organize.

Start with @Living Projects, so Gemini knows to use it. Once is enough. If Gemini later says it doesn't know Living Projects, say your request again, starting with @Living Projects. It asks your permission for most actions: click Allow. Each task takes longer than in other AIs. Nothing is wrong.

Start a new chat with “@livingprojects list homes”, then ask for what you need. Claude Design may describe what it saved in its own words. To see the exact saved text, open the file in your storage.

Your AI may use its own words for parts of the record, such as “things you passed on” for rejections. The files in your storage keep their names: decisions, rejections, definitions, and corrections.
